Many years ago, there was an emperor, who was so excessively fond of new clothes, that he spent all his money on the finest suits. The little boy who literally sees through the Emperor's New Clothes only appears for a moment, and yet he is one of the greatest heroes of all fairy tales - for he speaks the truth that nobody else dares to speak. Yet they can probably see it's just as ridiculous as we can. The moral of this story rings so very true! What we are doing is totally absurd, but we can't stop because everybody else seems to believe that it's the right thing to do. Two weavers comes to his court saying that they makes clothes that are like no others - anyone who is simple in the head, or unfit for his job, will not be able to see them.Īll the courtiers say that the clothes are quite magnificent, and the Emperor plans to wear his new suit for the procession through the centre of the city. The Emperor is enormously vain and likes nothing better than to show off his clothes. Download the audio of the Emperor's New Clothes (right click, save as)

Though other cities-including Cleveland, Los Angeles, and Baltimore-can fight over that mantle, it’s clear that segregation defines Chicago. The Manhattan Institute dubs Chicago as one of the most segregated big cities in the country. Yet, swept under the rug is the stench of segregation that compromises Chicago. Daley and Rahm Emanuel have touted and promoted Chicago as a “world-class city.” The skyscrapers kissing the clouds, the billion-dollar Millennium Park, Michelin-rated restaurants, pristine lake views, fabulous shopping, vibrant theater scene, downtown flower beds, and stellar architecture tell one story. 6/28/2023 0 Comments Alison page designsJefa Greenaway is a Wailwan and Kamilaroi man and champion of Indigenous design practices for over two decades. I was a teenager living in Tokyo back then and absolutely devastated when I heard the news because I had literally just been introduced to his music by my hip hop loving boyfriend, still deliciously oblivious about the East Coast-West Coast hip hop rivalry in the US. It was 24 years ago today that Tupac died of the gunshot wounds he had suffered six days earlier in the Las Vegas shooting. This poetry collection was published three years after his death by the Shakur Family Foundation and included never before seen poems, written in his own hand when he was a 19-year-old teenager. Tupac was globally known as a hip hop artist, but perhaps lesser so as a poet. (…) The slaying silenced one of modern music’s most eloquent voices - a ghetto poet whose tales of urban alienation captivated young people of all races and backgrounds.” Pulitzer Prize-winning music journalist Chuck Philips wrote after his death: “ helped elevate rap from a crude street fad to a complex art form, setting the stage for the current global hip-hop phenomenon. Regarded by some as the most influential rapper of all times, Tupac Shakur’s life was tragically cut short in 1996, when he was shot four times in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas. A collection of poems by Tupac Shakur, or 2Pac, which was published a few years after his death. The first surprise is that it's *beautifully* written. I see it's based on "The Snow Queen", but I disregard that bit and start reading. So, here I am, many years later, looking for something to read and somehow stumbling across this cute thing that's "The Raven and the Reindeer". I know it's available for free on the internet, and it cannot be as impossibly long as my memory makes it to be. Sometimes I wonder if I ever managed to finish it. I remember the beginning of the story, with the mirror made to reflect all evil things, which shattered in the presence of God and his angels - and I remember thinking it didn't have much to do with anything else. I remember trying to read that tale as a kid, but it felt strangely tedious, like it was one of those things I was supposed to read, not one of those things one read for pleasure. Technically, this is a story based on Hans Christian Andersen's "The Snow Queen", but I can't vouch for that. 6/27/2023 0 Comments Survival Instincts by May DawneyOn final, Survival Instincts is a beautiful novel with a fantastic story and strong characters. lynn, and dani these are the high up characters of this novel. Her love for writing gets its reinforcement from her personal life. Further down the line, she manages to finish her work on her debut novel, Beloved. Through careful, subtle changes of style, Chopin shows the transformation of Edna Pontellier, a young wife and mother, who - with tragic consequences - refuses to be caged by married and domestic life, and claims for herself moral and erotic freedom. But a century after her death, The Awakening is widely regarded as Kate Chopin's great achievement and a celebrated work of early feminist literature. When Kate Chopin's classic was first published in 1899, charges of sordidness and immorality seemed to consign it into obscurity and irreparably damage its author's reputation.
